Pneumatic Valves: Powered by compressed air, they feature rapid action, simple structure, easy maintenance, and intrinsic safety (explosion-proof). However, they require an air supply system and generally offer lower control precision. They are suitable for fast on/off applications or hazardous areas requiring explosion protection.
Electric Valves: Powered by electricity, they provide high thrust/torque, precise control, and convenient signal transmission, making them ideal for remote control and automation. However, they have a more complex structure and typically slower response times than pneumatic valves. They are best suited for applications without an air supply, requiring precise regulation, or in non-hazardous areas.
Gate valves and globe valves are two common types of shut-off valves.
Gate Valve: The gate moves perpendicular to the flow direction. Its advantages include low flow resistance and easy operation, but the sealing surfaces are prone to wear. It is not suitable for flow regulation and is typically used for fully open or fully closed conditions, such as in municipal water supply/drainage and long-distance oil/gas pipelines.
Globe Valve: The disc moves along the centerline of the seat. It offers superior sealing, a shorter stroke, and better throttling capabilities than a gate valve, but has higher flow resistance. It is often used in applications requiring tight shut-off or flow regulation, such as steam systems and chemical processing units.
Valve leakage is a frequent issue, primarily categorized into internal leakage (failure to close tightly, allowing media to pass) and external leakage (media seeping outside the valve body).
Internal Leakage: This is typically caused by worn sealing surfaces, debris obstruction, incomplete contact between the disc and seat, or improper valve selection (e.g., excessive pressure differential).
External Leakage: This usually occurs at the stem packing or flange connections. Common causes include aging or worn packing, damage to the stem surface, unevenly tightened flange bolts, or gasket failure.
